South Leeds Pupils To Design Hawks Kit

The club in conjunction with the South Leeds Academy are currently running a competition which will see Year 7 and Year 11 pupils designing the Hawks home kit for 2013. The aim of this competition is to help drive awareness of the club in the school whilst allowing the pupils the opportunity to take part in a great innovative project which will see the winning design become the Hawks home kit in 2013.
The school will initially select a number of designs which will be shortlisted and put forward for the Hunslet board to select the winner. The winning design will then be produced by the clubs new kit manufacturer for the 2013 Championship season.
The pupil with the winning entry will be presented with an award at our first game of the season. All pupils who have participated will also be invited to the match to see the winning design in reality for the first time.
CEO Darren Williams said "Its a really great project which will see us build on our current relationship with the academy. We hope that by giving the youth of the local community a chance to get involved with this kind of initiative that we will see more an more of them become Hunslet supporters in the future. We cant wait to see the designs"
Chloe Waddington a Year 7 student at The South Leeds Academy has written a report on how things are progressing. "In art we have been asked to design the Hunslet Hawks rugby league home kit. We are all excited to be given this opportunity, we all had lots of ideas in our head and we all couldn’t wait to get started. The Hunslet Hawks gave us the brief which told us what they wanted and what they needed the kit to be. Then we created a specification and made an inspiration board. To create our inspiration board we collected some images of Hunslet Hawks which we sketched and glued into our art books. We then used our inspiration board to come up with some fabulous ideas for our designs .We are now developing our ideas to create some interesting final designs to enter in the competition. We have to use all of our art skills and can only use white, myrtle and flame which are the team’s colours."
"I asked some of my friends how they thought the project is going, here is what they had to say"
"Helping each other develop our ideas was definitely the best thing that we have done so far, the shirts are coming out very well." - Chloe Manders
"It’s going really well and the final designs are going to be really good" – Luke Goodwin
"It’s an honour to be designing the Hunslet Hawks rugby kit because they’re part of our area." - Alisha Bell
